Robert & George Newman: Gunsmiths.

Robert & George Newman

Gun-Makers

11 Princes Street

Cork

Advertisement from the Cork Constitution March 1828.

Robert & George Newman commenced business in Cork circa 1824 (Pigots & Co Directory*) at 15 Paul Street, Cork.  As can be seen they removed the business from Paul Street to 11 Princes Street sometime between 1824 & 1828.

Robert & George go on to state that they are manufacturing Single and Double Guns of their own manufacture. In a later advert they add that they have their own "Manufactory" at 11 Princes Street. In addition, they were offering Duelling Pistols (of London Manufacture) and added a Treble Barrelled Gun! to their inventory.

Unfortunately, the Trade Directories for Cork are incomplete. Therefore, the actual trading dates for this partnership are uncertain. The last entry thus far dates to 1837 but research is ongoing.

We would be pleased to hear from anyone with further data regarding this company as they appear to have traded for only a possible short 15 year period?

For further reading on the Gunmakers of Cork we have recently published an article through the Classic Arms and Militaria Magazine.
