The following entries have been collected over a number years by myself, fellow collectors and dealers. In total over 1100 registrations from the 40 areas have been collated which is a very small sample of the 300.000 weapons the authorities had calculated were in circulation in private hands at this time.

An exceptionally high quality silver mounted holster pistol with Spanish form, two stage swamped nine inch barrel by John Waters, Dublin.



Underside showing silver mounts throughout. This pistol being approximately 15.25" overall. 




A very elegant 14 bore holster pistol displaying all of the delightful features of a mid 18th century weapon. 

 Struck with double Crowned "GP" proof.


This compact and workmanlike weapon weighs in at a modest 885 grms. An ounce under two pounds. The stock  being highly figured and uniquely carved.

                                                  Silver grotesque butt mask/pommel
Silver reverse plate with banners, scrolls and assay marks.

    Silver front sight with the nose of a wild animal being the blade.

Stock escutcheon engraved with a wolf head crest (unidentified).

 Dublin assay mark. No date letter was issued in 1755.
Crowned harp assay mark.

Hibernia assay mark. 


Very little is documented regarding this gunmaker but M.S. Dudley Westropp states the date
1750 and also "dead in 1755". However, the skill of this gunmaker is evident in the above photography.

This quarrel arose through the Earl making offensive remarks regarding Catholic Emancipation for which the Duke, as Prime Minister, championed.
