Featured Wm & Jn Rigby Revolving Carbine.

 W & J Rigby
Dublin.
Revolving Carbine.

Seven barrelled "hand rotated" carbine with sprung bayonet sold to S. Crosthwaite in 1839 for £34.13.00
Information courtesy of Great Irish Gunmakers, Messrs Rigby 1760-1869 by D.H.L. Back.
Page 83.
Overall length 27" Barrel cluster 11" and in 32 bore. The ramrod contained within the stock.

Three bented back action lock. Integral nipple shield.
The two side screws, one either side, are the barrel cluster release and retaining screws.

Although a seven shot revolver it has only six nipples. Barrels six and seven (centre) fire in unison!!
We think it would be advisable to start in this position if affronted by a would be assailant!

Muzzle & Extended Bayonet.

This configuration puts a whole new meaning to seventh heaven!
You may have been very happy to use this weapon but extremely unhappy to find yourself at the business end of this most intimidating piece of hardware.

                                                   Engraved W & J Rigby, Dublin

This weapon would have been made in the 24 Suffolk Street, workshops where William & John Rigby were at this time producing their own barrels. It was not until 1843 that they produced their first double action mechanically rotated barrels on pepperbox revolvers.

It is believed  S. Crosthwaite Esq., was the owner of  Lodge Mills, Bagenalstown, County Carlow.

Please refer to the attached link for view of Lodge Mill.
