The Belfast & Donaghdee
Royal Mail Coach.
The proprietors quote this early 19th century coaching service as "well appointed".
This eighteen mile trip taken at seven miles per hour on dirt roads would have made for a challenging journey especially in inclement weather. As detailed in previous blogs this
type of service was a boon to the local gunmaker's where blunderbusses and pistols would
have been essential stock in protecting the passengers, their valuables and of course the
Royal Mail.
We are always interested in any material related to the Irish gunmakers and also Irish coaching companies.
