1843 Registration Act. Continental Weapons.

The Irish Registration Act of 1843

  Schedule B.,6&7 Vic.,Cap.74,Sec 3.

Licence to Keep Arms.

 Survey
1843-1846
 Continental Weapons.

The following entries have been collected over a number years by myself, fellow collectors and dealers. In total over 1100 registrations from the 40 areas have been collated which is a very small sample of the 300.000 weapons the authorities had calculated were in circulation in private hands
at this time.

The list below gives all those continental weapons found registered  between 1843-1846.

Listed are the county prefix, licence number, description of weapon/s and where possible the maker/retailer.

1843 Registration.  Description of weapon. Maker City/Town

DL 614 24 Bore Pistol Gabbitas
DN 28 Flintlock Wall Gun.
Liege
DU 7801/7802
Rifled Target Pistols. Percussion
Gosset Paris
EC 1273 Flintlock Repeating Pistol. Lorenzoni Florence
EC 2210        Bouriec Bordeaux
EC 792 Percussion Pistol Bachman
KE 492 Silver Mounted Flintlock Pistol Lorenzoni Florence
LH 1196 D/B Shotgun.  A.V. Lebeda Prague
LH 323 Russian Flintlock Carbine
Potsdamma
LY 539 Flintlock D/B Pistol Henri Petitjean Liege
MN 6649 Converted Holster Pistol Claude Micquex Liege
ST 787 Flintlock Holster Pistol C. Niquet Liege
MA 1005                Flintlock 10 Bore Musket                                         Sweden
DL 2234                 Flintlock Sword/Pistol.              c.1650                    Holland

Of the weapons thus far listed in this survey it can be seen that the foreign made arms within Ireland during and leading up to the Act were a very small proportion of the weapons in circulation. As a percentage of the weapons found they make up less than one percent of the total. As detailed in our "older posts" the indigenous gunmakers were producing seventy five percent of the
weapons in use and the balance being supplied by English gunmakers.

We are always interested in foreign weapons registered under the 1843 Act.
