William & James Kavanagh
12 Dame Street
Dublin.
A James Beattie & Son, London retailed Tranter Revolver.
As with so many weapons that were sold through various companies/agents they would at some stage need running repairs or servicing. The above revolver was originally sold through James Beattie & Son of London (1864-1879). At some stage this pistol found its way to Ireland where in all probability William & James Kavanagh (1864-1870) carried out some work to it and therefore added their trade card/label to the lid of the case. This being common practice throughout the gun trade at this time.
The bottom flat stamped "94" and "4547"?
An original Wm & Jas Kavanagh trade card/label for the period
1864-1870.
We would be interested to know of any other similarly marked weapons by Beattie & Son or Wm & Jas Kavanagh.
Our sincere thanks to Steve Oxley for photography and permission to publish.
