The following entries have been collected over a number years by myself, fellow collectors and dealers. In total over 1100 registrations from the 40 areas have been collated which is a very small sample of the 300.000 weapons the authorities had calculated were in circulation in private hands
at this time.

The list below gives all those multi-shot pistols ( More than 2 barrels)  found registered  between 1843-1846.

As can be ascertained from the above list this period was pivotal in the development of the multi- shot pistol. In America Samuel Colt was busily developing the percussion revolver. Adams was about to patent his 1851 Double Action solid frame revolver.

Interestingly of the twenty pistols listed above, four are in flintlock. The development of the copper percussion cap (1818) leading to more reliable Turnabout and Rotary Hammer Turret Pistols These being produced throughout the 1825-1840 period.

The Percussion Pepperbox Revolver being in its infancy in the British Isles .

The one gun that was early to be caught by this legislation being the Transitional Revolver
(G 926).

This is a brief snap-shot of the weaponry in circulation during this 1843-1846 period and highlights
not only the mechanical advances being made but also the dominance of Wm & Jn Rigby as gunmakers in Ireland.

We are always pleased to know of other Multi-Shot Pistols registered under the 1843 Act.
