18th century German pistols by Kuchenreuter converted c.1830 and later cased by W&J Rigby 

   Cased with later accoutrements. Other features to this pair. Set Triggers and Rear Leaf Sights              
Blued and silver inlaid round tapered fine rifled barrels with flat top sighting rib. Classic Rigby reversed "C" hammers c.1830  




Internal lock work. 

The Kuchenreuter family of gunmakers were noted by Stockel no less than nineteen times (1). Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries this gunmaking dynasty were renown for their high quality barrel making,rifling and accuracy.

details applicable to this study.

                   Watch collectors could be interested in the reference to Samuel Atkins. London?

Samuel Atkins is recorded in Baillie, G. H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as an 'eminent' maker born in 1697 and working from Temple Bar until his death in 1768.

Cased Tranter No.2 Revolver marked J.Beattie & Son.

                                  A James Beattie & Son, London retailed Tranter Revolver.

As with so many weapons that were sold through various companies/agents they would at some stage need running repairs or servicing. The above revolver was originally sold through James Beattie & Son of London (1864-1879). At some stage this pistol found its way to Ireland where in all probability William & James Kavanagh (1864-1870) carried out some work to it and therefore added their trade card/label to the lid of the case. This being common practice throughout the gun trade at this time.
                                         
                                       The bottom flat stamped  "94" and "4547"? 
                           An original Wm & Jas Kavanagh trade card/label for the period
                                                                    1864-1870.

We would be interested to know of any other similarly marked weapons by Beattie & Son or Wm & Jas Kavanagh.

     A pair of cased percussion back action locked target/duelling pistols by Wm Cole. c.1830

These pistols fitted with detented locks, 10.1/8" octagonal barrels of 24 bore. Adjustable elongated foresights (dovetailed). Twin platinum breech bands. Spur triggers and the classic 
saw handled (orphopedic) grip. 

Wm Cole back action locks with sliding safeties.
Top flat engraved "Belfast" and this pistol etched D-N 6434
The pair consecutively numbered D-N 6433&6434.
Monogram to lid escutcheon " O.B"?
