Doubleday of Newark.

Recently purchased: A rare and unusual early percussion shotgun by Doubleday of Newark.

Has a spring with roller to sideplate on which activates a percussion cap retaining arm. Very similar to early tubelock configuration. The barrel is marked W & H ( Crowned) This is for the Birmingham company of Waterhouse & Horton. Birmingham proofs. 32" Barrel. Bore circa 12 bore. Gun circa 1825. Has a Forsyth look to it as most gunmakers at this period took the lead from the great man of Belhevie. Anyone out there with a Doubleday or information on him?
Thomas Doubleday traded 1821-1832 from Boar Lane, Newark.
