Waist upwards stripped to the buff! August 1806.

                                                    A Duel in the buff.

" In addition to what is said of the duel between the noble Earl and a celebrated sporting gentleman, in page 158 of our last magazine, we have to notice that the duel took place in Black-rock Bottom, near Brighton. We have likewise to observe, that Mr Howorth, upon the occasion, was from the waist upwards, stripped to the buff. Being afterwards interrogated as to his motive for so disencumbering himself of his clothes, he answered, that he was well versed in surgery, and consequently was aware, that it but too frequently happened in the extracting of a ball from the body of an individual , that the fragments of his dress, which the ball, in perforating, had driven before it, were found more difficult to bring away than the ball."
