Joseph Bray, Gunmaker. Dublin

Joseph Bray

Gunmaker

Dublin

An unusual French cocked, semi- rainproofed panned flintlock pistol with roller bearing frizzen spring, sliding safety, captive ramrod and thumb release side mounted bayonet c. 1820 by Joseph Bray of Dublin.
"Bray" just visible. The safety a replacement. Browned twist barrel.

Thumb release to bayonet.

Registered under the 1843 Irish Registration Act in County Louth ( L-H 1234)

Joseph Bray traded for a short period through the 1820's and is recorded as having legal issues with William Kavanagh amongst others in the guntrade.  A dispute arose due to Kavanagh being accused of using "English" imported parts. This being to the detriment of the Irish guntrade.
