Larry Keegan. Dublin

Larry "Old Pops" Keegan

36 Upper Ormond Quay

                                        1 Charles Street

3 Inns Quay
Dublin

This fabulous piece of social history not only gives us a glimpse into the workshop of Keegan's but also names the employees, their jobs and in the case of the gunsmiths their ex employers.

John Rigby & Co were incorporated into Trulock Harriss & Richardson in 1898. Although, Rigby's were still operating in London, where they opened in 1866. Trulock Harriss & Richardson finally closed in 1915. Kavanagh's maintained their presence in Dublin until 1923.

The early 20th century was extremely turbulent time for the firearms industry in Ireland and following the Second World War only Keegan and M. Garnetts & Son were trading within Dublin and these companies can be seen as the final vestiges of what was the Irish guntrade.

Future blogs to follow on both Keegan's and the amalgamated Garnetts and Keegan's.
