       Punch Magazines view of the duel and the gentleman's right to call out an opponent in                                                                          order to gain satisfaction.   

In no other country did this right embed itself more than Ireland. The large amounts of duelling pistols produced in Dublin being evidence of this and the fact that the "Clonmel Rules of  1777"
set out the terms and conditions for calling out "your man".
