It is not clear here whether it was Samuel, Richard or the youngest brother William who was involved in this unfortunate incident. Prior to becoming Trulock Brothers they traded as S & R Trulock. It wasn't until William entered the business that they became Trulock Brothers.

Various patents were allocated to this partnership. Please refer to: The British Shotgun.Volume One. 1850-1870 by I.M. Crudgington & D.J. Baker. Published by Barrie & Jenkins Ltd.. 1979.

Expanding Sporting Cartridge. 1829.

The agent is not named in this advertisment but it is likely to be Henry Webb, Gunmaker. He being noted at No.1 Jervis Street, Dublin.  It is likely this is either a typo or Henry Webb's  door number was altered.

Research ongoing.

Morton Gunmakers. Cork & Limerick.

Morton & Son Confusion?

Gunmakers

Limerick

Saunders Newsletter; 28th September 1867.

Interestingly, the Morton name in gunmaking has been connected with both Cork & Limerick during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

In Cork they traded under different guises i.e. R. Morton, William Morton and William Morton & Son and traded throughout in this period at Georges Street, Cork. c.1846-c1909..

Not until c. 1869 were they connected to Limerick when they first appear at 2 Ellen Street, Limerick as Morton & Son. Gunmakers. They went on to trade at 17 Patrick Street through to c.1893 again as Morton,W & Son.

It just could be plausible that Morton & Son Gunmakers were in the process of setting-up business in Limerick when this consignment was siezed in 1867? It is unlikely to be a Fenian plot as the package was clearly marked, although seemingly in error, "M.Morton & Son, Gunmakers, Limerick"

We are always interested in any early material related to the movement and manufacture of arms in Ireland.

Charles Weekes & Co.. Dublin.

Charles Weekes & Co..

Gun, Rifle, Revolver & Fishing Tackle Manufacturer.

Dublin

Letterheading for Charles Weekes & Co.. c.1897.

This letterheading states that the Weekes name had been connected with the gun trade for "Nearly a century". Existing information indicates John Weekes & Son (Charles) were trading by 1859 and John Weekes could have been in the trade prior to his son entering the business? Alternatively John Weekes could have bought out a gunmaker who had commenced business in c.1800 and utilised this established date as was the fashion at this time.

The reference to "The Arms Act having been done away with" is particularly telling! This would have freed-up the guntrade in Ireland and as can be seen made the importation of arms much easier from both Birmingham & London.
